How It Works

Five steps to finding someone

From a memory to a possible reconnection. Here's how the journey works.

STEP 01

Remember

Think about who you want to find and what you remember about them.

STEP 02

Post

Create a Lost Connection story with the details you remember.

STEP 03

Discover

Your post is reviewed and then made visible to registered users.

STEP 04

Connect

Someone who thinks they're the person you seek can reach out.

STEP 05

Reconnect

If you both agree, a private chat opens. You meet again.

A thoughtful first step

Turn a memory into a respectful search

A useful Lost Connection post gives someone enough context to recognize a shared experience without exposing private details. You do not need to know a person’s current address or contact information.

Start with shared context

Mention the setting where you met, an approximate year, a class or workplace, or a public event. One or two specific memories are often more helpful than a long list of guesses.

Protect their privacy

Leave out phone numbers, home addresses, private email addresses, identity documents, health details, and anything that could put the person at risk. Do not publish a detail just because you know it.

Leave room for choice

Explain why you hope to reconnect, avoid pressure, and accept that the other person may not respond. A respectful search makes space for both people to decide what happens next.

A simple example to adapt

β€œI’m hoping to reconnect with someone I knew at school around 2012–2014. We were in the same science class and worked together on a school exhibition. If this sounds familiar and you would like to reconnect, you can contact me through WeMetOnce. No pressure if you would rather not.”

This is a fictional example, not a real member post. Use only details you are comfortable sharing publicly and that do not expose another person’s private information.
