Safety & Privacy

Practical ways to reconnect while protecting your boundaries and other people's privacy.

Posts and moderation

Lost Connection posts are submitted for review before publication. Review can reduce misuse, but it cannot guarantee that every detail is true or that every harmful interaction will be prevented.

Share only what is necessary

Use a first name or nickname, a broad location, an approximate time period, and a non-sensitive shared memory. Do not publish phone numbers, home addresses, private messages, identity documents, or financial details.

Understand visibility

Community posts are intended for signed-in members, while public information pages and blog articles can be viewed by anyone. Check profile and post visibility settings before sharing personal details.

Report concerning behavior

Report a post, profile, message, or request that appears threatening, deceptive, invasive, or abusive. Include enough context for the team to understand the concern, but do not publish additional private information in a report visible to others.

You can say no

You are not required to accept a connection request or continue a conversation. Use available blocking and reporting controls if someone makes you uncomfortable, and stop responding if a conversation feels unsafe.

Consent comes first

A possible match is not proof of identity or permission to contact someone elsewhere. Respect a person's decision not to respond, decline, or end a connection.

Before you meet someone

  • Keep early conversations on-platform where possible and do not rush to share contact details.
  • If you choose to meet, choose a busy public place, arrange your own transport, and tell someone you trust.
  • Never send money, verification codes, passwords, or identity documents to someone you have just reconnected with.
  • If the person asks you to keep the interaction secret, pressures you, or ignores your boundaries, pause and reassess.

Know the limits of the service

WeMetOnce is a community reconnection service, not an emergency response, law-enforcement, or professional investigation service. We cannot guarantee that a person will be found, that a profile is genuine, or that a connection will be welcome. If someone may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services rather than waiting for a website response.

To report a platform concern, use the in-product reporting controls or visit our contact page.
