How It Works
From a memory to a possible reconnection — here's the journey.
Remember
Think about who you want to find. What do you remember about them? Their name, school, city, or a shared memory?
Post
Create a Lost Connection story using the information you remember. Your post goes to admin review before going public.
Discover
Once approved, your post becomes visible to registered users. Others can discover it through search and browsing.
Connect
If someone believes they are the person being searched for, they can send a connection request with an explanation.
Reconnect
If both people agree, a private chat opens. They can communicate safely and directly.
How to write a useful Lost Connection post
A good post helps someone recognize a shared experience without revealing information they would reasonably expect to remain private. Focus on the memory, not on finding someone’s current address or private contact details.
Include, when relevant
- An approximate year or time period.
- A shared school, workplace, neighborhood, group, or public event.
- A brief, non-sensitive memory that helps explain the connection.
- A respectful invitation that makes clear replying is optional.
Leave out
- Phone numbers, home addresses, private email addresses, or live location.
- Government ID numbers, financial details, or sensitive health information.
- Private information about relatives or other third parties.
- Accusations, threats, pressure, or demands for a response.
Example structure
“I’m hoping to reconnect with someone I knew at [shared setting] around [approximate years]. I remember [one non-sensitive shared memory]. If you think this may be you and would like to reconnect, you’re welcome to contact me through WeMetOnce. There is no pressure to respond.”
This is a writing template, not a real post or a promise that a match will be found. Avoid adding details that could identify or expose someone who has not chosen to participate.
If you are unsure whether a detail is appropriate to publish, leave it out. Review theSafety & Privacy guidancebefore posting. If you receive no response, respect that choice.
